What is Hospice Care?
Hospice care is end-of-life care. Hospice care helps to manage painful symptoms of your illness, but it’s about more than that. Hospice care is about taking care of you or your loved one as whole person, including tending to your physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional needs.
Hospice care is available to anyone of any age who is facing a life-limiting illness. Medical equipment, medications, and other supplies are all covered under hospice care.
We provide hospice care for those facing a variety of illnesses, including:
Heart or lung disease
To qualify for hospice care, you or your loved one needs to meet the following requirements:
A diagnosis of a life-limiting illness
Life expectancy of six months or less
Wanting to focus on quality of life rather than curative treatments (not a requirement for children)
If you meet the eligibility requirements, Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance typically cover hospice care.
Hospice care can take place in your home or in an inpatient setting. We specialize in providing in-home care. You can stay where you’re comfortable and in familiar surroundings.
Hospice is for anyone with any life-limiting illness, including cancer, heart or lung disease, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, and other end-stage diseases. Care is available for people of all ages, including infants and children, and for persons of any race or ethnicity. U.S. citizenship is not a requirement, nor is the ability to speak English.
Our staff work closely with our Medical Directors, family, and loved ones to ensure that the patient’s needs are being met. Our team-based approach includes a network of nurses, social workers, chaplains, physical therapists, bereavement specialists and trained volunteers, enhancing our ability to provide responsive, personalized care to patients, their caregivers, and their families. While hospice does not provide constant care, our staff is just a phone call away, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
